Commercial Laundry Equipment for Hotels: Sizing and Spec Guide
How to work out the laundry capacity a hotel actually needs, and what to check before choosing equipment.

To specify commercial laundry equipment for a hotel, calculate the daily weight of linen and towels you process, allow for peak occupancy and turnaround, then choose machine capacity and cycle times that clear that volume within your operating day. Undersizing the laundry is expensive to fix once the room is built.
Estimate the daily linen volume
Start from the room count, expected occupancy and the linen set per room per day. Add restaurant, spa and staff uniforms if you process those too.
Then apply a peak factor. A laundry sized for average occupancy will fall behind on full weekends and event periods.
- Beds and bathrooms per room, and how often linen is changed
- Restaurant and banquet linen, if processed on site
- Towels, robes and spa linen
- Staff uniforms and kitchen linen
Match machine capacity to the volume
Washing capacity is measured in kilograms per cycle. Multiply capacity by realistic cycles per working day to see whether a machine can clear your volume.
Drying and ironing must keep pace with washing, or the bottleneck simply moves downstream.
Check utilities and space
- Power supply and phase requirements
- Hot and cold water capacity and drainage
- Gas or steam for dryers and ironers
- Extraction, ventilation and floor loading
- Space for sorting, folding and storage
Installation and ongoing service
Laundry equipment is heavy and utility-dependent, so installation matters as much as the machine. Confirm what the offer includes: delivery, positioning, connection, commissioning and training.
Also confirm spare parts and service coverage in your country. A reliable service partner local to the property can matter more than a modest price difference.
